Music Meme - Imoria themed

So, when I do my daily sketches I generally listen to music and let the songs inspire what I draw. The other day I was doing this and thought, why not put them together and fill a music meme with them. And so, that's exactly what I did.

The rules state that you should pick some sort of theme, which I have never done before when doing one of these, but I decided I would this time, and so I chose Imoria. For those of you who don't know, that's my up and coming rpg group (don't worry, I am getting closer to making it public, I promise). I did my best to listen to the rules, but there were some times that I had to skip songs because the ones that came on just didn't inspire anything. Other than that though, I was really pretty good but for like, one spot.

Keep in mind, these sketches were all done in 3-5 minutes. They are in no way perfect nor final. They represent what my very first sketches look like, when I'm just planning what the picture will look like, before I go through and add detail, make corrections, and clean up the sketch.

#1 Phenomena by Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Something like a phenomenon baby, you're something like a phenomenon."
This song just made me think of someone sassy and teasing, who was very confident in themselves. This here's probably a female, but she isn't an official character from the group.

#2 Vanishing by A Perfect Circle - "Disappear, disappear. Higher, higher, into the air. Slowly disappear. No, no longer here."
For some reason I couldn't help but see someone floating limply through the air, looking almost careless as to what was happening. I realize now I should have given them wings, make it look almost like his wings were carrying him out of his own control sort of idea. Then again, they wouldn't really have fit on the picture.

#3 Buried Beneath by Red - "My eyes have adjusted to dark, and so has my heart. The weight of the world has covered me."
This is actually the only developed character in the meme. Others may eventually become a character, but this pretty boy here already was before I sketched him. His name is Aldye, and he's the crowned prince of Imoria, who also happens to be blind. He's very young, but his father is ill, and it doesn't look like it will be long before he takes the throne. This song sort of fit how he feels crushed by the pressure of being king.

#4 Eyes Wide Open by Gotye - "We walk the plank with our eyes wide open."
I sort of cheated on this one. I got so carried away and into the image that I played the song a couple times over so that I could keep working on it. I just loved the intense feel of it, and some added color and detail really helped to add to it. This is not a developed character yet, but it probably will become one of the cult members who very literally blindly follow their leader.

#5 Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones - "No more will my green sea turn a deeper blue. I could not foresee this thing happening to you."
I had fun with this one. The second the song started I knew I wanted to sketch on a black canvas, to really fit the mood. I originally started the sketch thinking I was going to draw someone who was mad with rage, but as it went on, it soon turned into a morning lover. I really love the feel of this one and am quite happy with the base sketch. I might finish it some day and probably develop this one into a character as well.

#6 Here I Am by Bryan Adams - "It's a new world! It's a new start! It's alive with the beating of a young heart! It's a new day, in a new land, and it's waiting for me. Here I am."
Those of you who grew up horse lovers probably watched Spirit as many times as I did. It still touches my heart every time and hits me with nostalgia. When this song came on I couldn't help but draw a little baby Imori, all fluffy and filled with wonder of the world around them.

#7 Bleed Like Me by Garbage - "Hey baby can you bleed like me? Come on baby can you bleed like me? You should see my scars."
This song is so moving and sad at the same time. I started out by drawing someone who was sad and crying, maybe broken hearted or something, but as the sketch finished and the song kept going I couldn't help but add in some blood. It seems this poor thing has had their horn broken off at the base. That's got to hurt. They will probably become a character as well. Maybe a former slave who will become part of the rebellion.

#8 World In Flames by In This Moment - "So hurry please. There's flames around me. Come find me and say..."
This song has always really felt close to me, and honestly I'm not sure why... but even so, I started sketching immediately when it came on, knowing exactly what I envisioned from it. Basically some poor thing is trapped in fire, but they are calmly waiting to be saved by the one they love... sadly I can see later on that someone not finding them and they end up dying in the flames... but you know, I like to be tragic!

#9 Southern Constellations by Pierce the Veil - "It's cold but you pretend that you are warm with me. Before I get you home you're nearly frozen. But I'll never let you freeze without me."
This song is actually an introduction to another song, and so it's not even a minute long. Because of that I did play the song over a few times, but I figured I was justified in that, right? Listening to this song I just see someone rushing to save the one they love, hot breaths of air puffing from their nostrils as snow flies behind them with each stride, a clear sky above lighting the way. It's a bit sloppy because I did have less time, but I like the concept.

#10 Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Three Day Grace - "Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me. 'Till then I walk alone."
What a good song to finish the meme with. It leaves us with a lone stranger wandering down a long and winding path in the middle of the night. There's not much to say here, the lines say it all. Maybe if they wish upon that shooting star their wish will come true.

And that's it! Just for the fun of it, I decided to tag some buddies. I love seeing these memes because it's fun to see what people's unfinished, early-stage art looks like. I also love discovering new songs by them.
